The first step in the repair voids the warranty, so proceed with caution. Remove the two pentalobe screws on the bottom of the device in order to remove the screen. Attach a suction cup on the screen of the device, just above the home button and pull the screen gently away from the rom. Be careful not to pull too hard because the ribbon connectors that hold the screen to the logic board can be damaged.
Once inside the screen must be disconnected from the logic board via the ribbon connector at the top of the phone, which has five screws holding it in place. The bottom three are 1.2 mm in length, while the top left screw is 1.7 mm and the top right is 3.1 mm. Use a spudger to remove the ribbon connectors that are attached to the screen and the batter then remove both from the device.
From here the work is done entirely on the screen assembly. The home button id covered by a metal mid-frame bracket, which has three screws holding it in place. Once removed, the home button should be lightly tweezed from its socket. As some buttons might still be functional, but stuck because of dust or grime build up, try not to tear the rubber gasket around the button.
Whether the button is just being cleaned or replaced with a new button, the repair is almost over. Replace all screws into their proper places, reattach all connector ribbons, and close the device. Testing to make sure the device is working properly is always the last step of a repair.
